On 17 July 2021, the NSS unit of St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad in collaboration with the NGO ‘Sakshi”, through the Youth and Sports Cabinet Ministry of India, Government of India, conducted a webinar on ‘POCSO Act 2012 and Gender Equality’. Dr. Ramya Nisal, who was the invited speaker gave an insight into the subject, especially awakening the youth on gender equality.
“Govind vs Covid” – A short film created by NSS volunteers of the college, has been appreciated by many. As part of ‘Each one Reach one’ mission of Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, the NSS unit of our college too has contributed by starting a helpline providing information of availability of beds, medicines, injections, oxygen cylinders etc. Our volunteers distributed clothes, food and most important, have encouraged people to get vaccinated and helped people to register for vaccination. The short film too was created as part of this mission. A blog initiated by one of the students to reach out to people who needed emotional support has been appreciated by Shri M SaiKiran, Coordinator, MGNCRE, GOI.
The Statistics Department celebrated National Statistics Day on 29 June 2021, by conducting a talk by Dr. Vipul Kalamkar, Head, Statistics Department, M. S. University, Vadodara. On the occasion of the 128th birth anniversary (29 June) of the Father of Statistics, P.C Mahalanobis, the Government of India has declared this day to be celebrated as National Statistics Day. There were several events such as Quiz, Poster Presentations and Powerpoint presentations that created an environment of engagement and excitement.
