Extension

St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad (SXCA) guided by the principles of Ignatian pedagogy, is committed to shaping individuals who are not only intellectually competent but also socially responsible, compassionate, and actively engaged in public life. The College believes that education must extend beyond the classroom.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) emphasizes Extension Activities as a vital third dimension of higher education, alongside teaching and research. These activities foster strong connections between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and society, promoting civic engagement, social accountability, and experiential learning among students.

Several academic departments actively participate in community outreach. The Psychology, Mathematics, and Performing Arts departments regularly engage in social initiatives. The English Department organized student visits to Sabarmati Central Jail, offering real-world insights into the justice system. The Gujarati Department took students to tribal regions in Sabarkantha, deepening their understanding of indigenous cultures and issues. The Economics and Commerce Department arranged a field visit to Mundra Port, giving students exposure to industrial and economic infrastructure.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad actively engaged in a variety of impactful community outreach initiatives throughout the academic year. Highlights include participation in Yoga Day and Swachhata Hi Seva, visits to old age homes, Thalassemia and stem cell awareness camps, and the Rudhirshana blood donation drive. The NSS launched Saksham to educate underprivileged children and organized Khushiyon Wali Diwali, distributing food and clothes to over 200 needy families in the slums of Vasna and Vastrapur. Other initiatives included a disaster management workshop with NDRF, participation in the 25th Rashtra Katha Shivir, hosting Navodit with an NGO (Youth for Seva) for government school children, a dental camp, and a road safety awareness campaign across the city. These efforts reflect the unit’s commitment to social responsibility and student development.

SXCA continues to reinforce its mission of education with a conscience—ensuring that students are not only career-ready but also community-minded and ethically grounded.
