St. Xavier’s College upholds the maxim ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’ as sports and games being an integral part of Jesuit education. Several facilities are available for students to live the maxim on campus. In appreciation of excellent performance in sports, annual awards are conferred to the players who have performed well in their individual games and represented Gujarat University in the academic year.

Highest Honours given are ‘Sports Men of the Year’ & ‘Sports Women of the Year’ to those individual who have excelled in the sports in an academic year.

College hosts ‘Fr. Donald Dais Football tournament’, ‘Br. Lobo Cricket Tournament’, ‘Major Padheria Road Race’ & ‘Fastest Track Runner’ to keep the sportsman spirit alive on campus.

Annual Sportsfest Championship is an interclass sports event not only to promote sports among students but also to give an opportunity to those who could not represent college at the University level.

Admission Criteria

National Certificate Holder, State Certificate Holder

Being an integral part of education at Xavier’s, the Management feels responsible for the academic welfare of the sport persons. Due credit is given to the time and energy spent in training and care is taken to ensure they don’t compromise with their academics.

  • The following rules must therefore be faithfully observed:
  • Sports persons must be regular and begin as well as end their practice sessions on time so as to be able to attend all their lectures.
  • Sports persons are not exempted from class tests or examinations. If tournaments occur on such days, alternative arrangements will be made only for those who are directly involved.
  • For all practical purposes, sports persons will be treated at par with other students and will not be granted special privileges where academic matters are concerned.
  • Every student representing the College in sports is given internal marks, as follows: inter-college: 1 mark; inter zone: 2 marks; Nationals: 3 marks; and international: 4 marks per paper.
