Languages connect communities and nations. The knowledge of languages apart from being a communication skill enables creations of books that speak volumes about a nation, a state and its people, culture, and history. The department facilitates and enthuses every student, who is interested in Gujarati language, culture and literature. The focus, the efforts, the faculty, the activities and culture of the department are oriented towards their students’ growth and well-being.
A curriculum in Hindi includes famous literary works of Shri Ramdarsh Mishra, Shri Raghuvir Chaudhury, and Shri Chinubhai Modi etc. The rapporteur of Hindi literature takes one through a journey of different times, the changes and the progress that India has made in all these years. Apart from the technicalities of the language, the students get to learn about traditions, cultures and heritages.
With the objective of overall growth of students in view, focus will be on creating motivation and passion for language, literature and culture among students.
To orient students of Gujarati and Hindi, they are exposed through the masterpiece writings of eminent authors, taken to institutions that preserve and promote Gujarati and Hindi literature, theatre and culture. Students are encouraged to participate in seminars, workshops, literature fests, research projects, and co-curricular text study to widen their literary and linguistic horizons.
To enthuse the students in Gujarati / Hindi, we will take them through the writings of eminent authors; take them to institutions that preserve and promote Gujarati / Hindi literature, Gujarati / Hindi theatre and culture; encourage them to take part in seminars, workshops, literature fests, research projects, and book readings.
A Bachelors programme in Gujarati includes works of eminent writers of different eras, giving a glimpse of the societal conditions, the ethos and culture during medieval times, the practices and policies of earlier times, making a comparative with the current society and understanding the changes that have enabled the cultures and language to evolve. The programme aims at enabling students to be conversant with the subject as they could grow to become content writers, journalists, authors, poets and facilitators.
